Learning from Mistakes: What Yesterday’s Mistakes Taught Me

Yesterday, I was thinking about the mistakes I had made.
All of us make mistakes in life — mistakes that trouble us, embarrass us, or leave us confused.

But one truth I have deeply realized is this: mistakes are not meant to break us. They are meant to make us stronger, wiser, and better human beings.

This reminds me of a famous interview.

Once, at an event, a journalist asked Priyanka Chopra:

“What do you learn from your mistakes?”

Priyanka smiled and gave a beautiful answer:

“Mistakes are proof that you are trying. And when you try, you learn, you grow, and you become better.”

Her answer carries a deep message about life.
Because the truth is — the person who makes mistakes is the one who is walking on the path of learning.

This was about Priyanka Chopra, but let me give you a live example from my own life.

These days, I am learning English. I also feel that I am becoming more fluent. But the moment I try to speak in front of others, my words get stuck in my throat, and whatever comes out is completely different from what I wanted to say. Just two days ago, I attended a wedding. On the first day, a foreigner lady looked at my son and said:

She: He is so independent!
She: Is he with you?
Me: Yes, he is my son.
She: His outfit is so well-matched! The shoes, the jacket — everything looks so coordinated.
Me: I am glad you noticed it.

You cannot imagine how much confidence these four sentences gave me. I was so happy. I kept remembering that moment again and again.

I wore such a beautiful saree, diamond rings, and a necklace, but what made me happiest was simply this — I spoke to a foreign lady in English. Because that was my personal success. I shared that moment with my husband, my teacher, and everyone close to me.

Earlier, I used to be scared of speaking in front of people, thinking that if I made a mistake, people would laugh at me. But we need to understand that behind every mistake lies a powerful lesson.

Some people don’t even start things because they are afraid of making mistakes.

They don’t take risks out of fear of being wrong.

They don’t succeed because they are scared to fail.

Alfred P. Sloan once said,
“If you get 51% of your decisions right in life, you become the hero of your life.”

So we should never be afraid of making mistakes — but we must definitely learn from them, so that we can make most of our decisions right.

Sometimes we trust the wrong people, sometimes we make decisions in haste, and sometimes we lose our priorities.

But all these experiences have taught me that—
Mistakes are not our enemies; they are the biggest steps toward our growth.

Whatever strength I have in my personality today is not only because of my right decisions, but because of the lessons I learned from my wrong ones.

So I have decided that I will not hide my mistakes. Instead, I will let them guide my life — just like a compass shows the right direction.

This way, I won’t repeat the same mistakes and I will keep moving closer to my dreams.
